This May, Brighton Festival is pulling out all the stops for its 60th anniversary with a classical music programme that promises to be both ambitious and exhilarating. Spanning an impressive 400 years of music, the festival will showcase everything from the works of Monteverdi and Bach to contemporary compositions by British composer Anna Meredith.

The festival kicks off with a spectacular collaboration between the Chiaroscuro Quartet and Consone Quartet at the iconic Glyndebourne Opera House. These leading string quartets will perform Haydn and Mozart masterpieces before uniting for Mendelssohn’s Octet, setting the tone for the musical journey ahead.

One of the festival’s highlights is a bold staging of Bach’s St John Passion at the Brighton Dome Concert Hall. Performed by Britten Sinfonia, Brighton Festival Chorus, and Youth Choir, this rendition is sung in English, with choirs moving through the audience, creating an immersive experience.
