Joy White, a retired eye care specialist, has received the British Empire Medal for her remarkable contributions to ophthalmology, particularly in Brighton and beyond. Her distinguished career, culminating as the head of orthoptics at Sussex Eye Hospital, has positively impacted countless lives.
Joy began her journey by qualifying in orthoptics from Sheffield, eventually becoming an orthoptic teacher and joining the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. Her dedication to eye health transcended UK borders, with significant work in Romania, Albania, and Zambia, where she trained eye health clinicians and volunteered with international charities like Orbis.
The University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, where Joy retired last December, proudly celebrates her achievements.
