Exciting news for fitness enthusiasts in Portslade! The gym at Portslade Sports Centre has undergone a significant transformation, almost doubling in size to provide residents with top-notch fitness facilities. Officially opened by Amanda Grimshaw, the Mayor of Brighton & Hove, this revamped gym promises to be a game-changer for the local community.
The ambitious upgrade includes new flooring, enhanced audio and visual systems, and a wide range of state-of-the-art equipment. The washroom facilities have also been expanded and improved, ensuring a comfortable experience for all gym-goers. This project was made possible through section 106 funding and investment from Freedom Leisure, which manages the centre on behalf of Brighton & Hove City Council.
The refurbishment is part of the council’s Sports Facilities Investment Plan, aiming to enhance sports amenities across the city and encourage residents to lead active lifestyles. As the gym opened its doors in late December, locals were invited to embark on a new health and fitness journey, just in time for those New Year’s resolutions!
Councillor Grimshaw expressed her excitement about the new facility, highlighting its inclusive design catering to various ages and abilities, including students from Portslade Aldridge Community Academy. She praised the collaborative efforts of the sports facilities team, Freedom Leisure, the Bailey Partnership, and Shellmar Construction for bringing this project to fruition.
Jason Musk, Freedom Leisure’s area manager, emphasised the success of the partnership in delivering these improved facilities. He looks forward to welcoming residents from Portslade and Hove to experience one of the region’s leading fitness venues.
So, whether you’re a seasoned gym-goer or just starting your fitness journey, the new Portslade Sports Centre gym offers a fantastic opportunity to get active and stay healthy.
