Brighton’s Mod Fashion Exhibition: A Must-See

Get ready to step back in time this summer as Brighton Museum & Art Gallery unveils its latest exhibition, “The In Crowd: Mod Fashion & Style 1958-66.” Kicking off on 10 May 2025 and running until 4 January 2026, this exhibition is a vibrant celebration of the Mod era, a time when fashion was as much about rebellion as it was about style.

Sponsored by the legendary Brighton Mod brand Ben Sherman, the exhibition features over 35 dressed mannequins showcasing rare Mod outfits from the collection of vintage fashion expert Roger K. Burton. Known for his work on films like “Quadrophenia,” Burton brings his expertise to Brighton, offering a glimpse into the world of sharp tailoring and bold colours that defined a generation.

The exhibition isn’t just about clothes; it’s about capturing the spirit of a youth movement that rejected the norms of post-war Britain. Mods embraced a lifestyle of modernity and individuality, and their influence can still be seen in today’s fashion world. Expect to be transported back to the 1960s with sleek miniskirts, sharp suits, and crisp button-down shirts that embody the era’s forward-thinking spirit.

Hedley Swain, CEO of Brighton & Hove Museum, highlights the city’s unique connection to the Mod movement, making it the perfect setting for this exhibition. Visitors will not only explore the fashion but also its relationship with clubs and global music, offering a comprehensive look at the era’s cultural impact.

Whether you’re a long-time fan of Mod culture or new to its charms, “The In Crowd” promises an immersive experience. And while you’re in Brighton, why not explore the local property market with us at Sawyer & Co? We’re here to help you find your perfect home in this vibrant city.
