Brighton is set to host an exciting launch event for a new children’s book that aims to ease dental anxieties.

This educational picture book, part of the Binkie & Friends’ Adventures series, encourages children to visit the dentist without fear. Authors Julie Alison McDonald and Anna Emilia craft the story in rhyming verse, making it accessible for all children, including those with additional needs or neurodivergent traits.

The tale follows Hedgy the hedgehog’s first dental visit, offering insights into what children can expect during their own appointments. Alongside the charming narrative, the book provides a step-by-step guide on oral hygiene, complete with an award chart and Hedgy stickers, aligning with NHS teeth cleaning guidelines.

The book launch is on Thursday, September 25, at Waterstones in Brighton at 6.30pm. Adults can enjoy a talk, while children engage in fun colouring activities. A Q&A session follows, with opportunities to purchase and have books signed.

Tickets are £4 per adult or £12 for a ticket and book, available online via Waterstones. Children attend for free. You can also find the book at Waterstones, Cogmaze Publishing, or select independent bookstores.
