Brighton Cafes Brew Support for Mental Health

Brighton is buzzing with excitement as fifteen local coffee shops rally together to support the Molly Rose Foundation’s Coffee for Molly initiative. This heartfelt campaign coincides with the Brighton Marathon weekend, aiming to spark meaningful conversations about mental health while raising funds for suicide prevention.

The Molly Rose Foundation, created in memory of 14-year-old Molly Russell, is dedicated to preventing tragedies linked to harmful social media content. As runners lace up their trainers for the marathon and 10K on April 6, they’ll be championing this vital cause.

Local favourite, Puzzle Bored, a unique three-storey coffee and puzzle haven on New Road, is among the participating cafes. Owner Mark Carter shared his enthusiasm, stating, “We are very excited and proud to be working with this amazing charity as it is an issue that resonates a lot with myself and the amazing service and support the charity provides.”

The initiative is set to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere across the city’s coffee spots. Expect to see Coffee for Molly conversation starter menus, branded coffee cup sleeves, and Where To Find Help cards, all designed to encourage open dialogue.

Wilf Mentis, sustainability lead at Redroaster, which operates three cafes in Brighton, highlighted the importance of the campaign, saying, “We believe in the importance of removing the stigma surrounding mental health and believe the relaxed atmosphere a coffee shop creates is perfect for these kinds of discussions.”

Andy Burrows, CEO of the Molly Rose Foundation, expressed gratitude to both the runners and cafes, emphasising the significance of taking time to talk.

There’s still room for more cafes to join this inspiring initiative. Interested? Simply email [email protected]. And while you’re out enjoying a cuppa, remember that we at Sawyer & Co are here to support your property needs in Brighton. Cheers to community spirit!
