Fostering: Transforming Lives, One Child at a Time

Jane, a dedicated foster carer from Brighton & Hove, has opened her heart and home to more than 60 children since she began fostering in 1994. Her story, shared with her now-adult foster son Terry, highlights the profound impact a caring environment can have on young lives.

Terry, who came into Jane’s care at the tender age of four with his two brothers, recalls the joy of finding a “forever home” with Jane. He fondly remembers the comfort of being with his siblings, a crucial factor in feeling secure and loved. “The happiest moment of my life was knowing I had a place to grow up with my brother,” Terry shares.

Jane’s commitment to fostering siblings together underscores the importance of maintaining familial bonds, which can be challenging but immensely rewarding. “Helping children get to where they need to be is the most fulfilling thing,” Jane says. Her nurturing spirit has not only provided a safe haven for many children but has also inspired Terry to consider fostering in the future.

Fostering is more than just providing a temporary home; it’s about creating an extended family. “The children Jane has cared for are still a part of our family,” Terry explains. Jane encourages those considering fostering to embrace the journey despite the emotional challenges, emphasising the joy of watching children thrive.

Brighton & Hove City Council’s Fostering Service is in need of more compassionate individuals like Jane. While fostering might not be for everyone, spreading the word can make a difference. If you’re inspired to learn more about fostering, contact Brighton & Hove City Council or attend one of their information sessions.

Together, let’s continue to build a community where every child feels loved and secure. And remember, if you need a helping hand finding your own forever home, we at Sawyer & Co are here to assist.
